Equipment

All the tanning equipment used by Dark Desires Tanning Studio has been designed to conform to the regulations set by the United States FDA.

The equipment is specially designed with a controlled combination of UV-A and UV-B rays to bring you the maximum bronze tan look.

Client Safety Through Prevention

Eye Protection

Wearing protective eyewear is required while tanning.

Failing to wear protective eyewear or removing it at any point during tanning may result in severe eye damage.

Some examples of eye damage are: temporary corneal burns and permanent cataracts.

We have equipped our salon with the latest eyewear (both goggle and disposable) to protect your eyes at our cost.

Please check with us if you encounter white rings around the eyes or “raccoon eyes”.

It’s not worth paying for a tan and damaging your eyes.

Skin Protection

Your skin is the largest organ in the human body; it protects the body from being harmed and helps to regulate body temperature.

Some examples of skin damage are: skin dryness, premature aging of the skin, skin cancer, etc.

You may not see the immediate damage but it’s too late when you realize it.

Overexposure or repeated exposure is one of the main factors causing skin damage. Any salon that promotes or allows this practice is against the FDA regulations and a danger to tanners.

Tanning without the use of proper lotion is another factor causing skin damage.

It is our responsibility to ensure that all our clients do not get over-exposed to UV rays or get a burn at all costs.

It is recommended to have a break of 48 to 72 hours between each tanning session to allow the skin to repair minor damage, create melanin and develop a tan.

Sensitive Parts Protection

Sensitive parts are areas that are lacking in melanin or areas that are rarely exposed to sunlight.

Some examples of sensitive parts are: nose, ears, lips, underarms and genitalia.

Tanners should take extra care to protect these areas and prevent them from being over exposed.

Tanners can either apply sunscreens or cover those areas with towels or clothing halfway through the tanning session.

Lip Balm with UV protection is strongly recommended during tanning because our lips do not have melanocytes and cannot produce melanin as protection.

Benefits of Tanning - Get Real! - Exposed to the UVB portion of sunlight, t he skin produces Vitamin D, also known as the Sunshine Vitamin. Sunlight and Vitamin D synthesis significantly influence your body, everything from lowering cholesterol to preventing cancer.

Mother Nature had it right all along: Tanning is natural. It’s what your body is supposed to do. Just like you need air, food and water, you need sunlight to survive.

Tanning is your body’s natural protection against sunburn. Many have referred to this process as “damage” to your skin, but calling a tan “damage” is a dangerous over simplification. Here is why:

Calling a tan damage to your skin is same as calling exercise damage to your muscles. Consider when one exercises you are actually tearing tiny muscle fibers in your body. On t he surface, examined at the micro level, that could be called “damage”. But, that damage on the micro-level is your body’s way of building stronger muscle tissue. To call exercise “damaging” to your muscles would be terribly deceiving. The same can be said of sun exposure. Developing a tan is your body’s way of protecting itself from the dangers of sunburn and further exposure. To say that any ultraviolet light exposure causes skin damage is a dangerous oversimplification. It would be like saying that since water causes drowning, humans should avoid all water. Yes, water causes drowning, but our bodies also need water. We would die without water.

It is the professional indoor tanning industry’s position that sunburn prevention is a more effective message than total abstinence, which ultimately encourages abuse. It is a responsible honest approach to the issue.
